Big Update Brings Recorded Voice Messages to Facebook Messenger 2.1
If you’ve been looking for ways to make Facebook a bigger part of your life (and who hasn’t?!), the social networking company has delivered just what you’ve been looking for in an update to their Facebook Messenger app… Previously, Facebook Messenger could be used for sending messages in the form of text or photo, and now you can throw your very own voice into the mix, as the 2.1 update introduces recorded voice messages.
For those who rely on Facebook Messenger as a big part of their regular communications, Facebook has a point when they say that the new recorded voice feature should offer a solution for those times “when you have more to say.” Until now, it was hard to come up with any reason why you’d choose Facebook Messenger over iMessage, but if you long to talk out loud more often, then I don’t see why this shouldn’t count as one reason.
The “record” button now sits alongside the photo and camera buttons seen when a user goes to compose a new message. We’ll have to wait and see if the feature takes hold right away, or if it will take something more like true VoIP to get Facebook in the voice-messaging game. Word is they’re currently testing that exact thing (VoIP) exclusively in Canada, so there’s no doubt they have a strong interest in tapping into our communication needs apart from those that play out online… Will we let them?
