Confirmed: Apple will unveil iPad 3 at March 7th event
Well, we’re almost through with the final round of speculation, now that Apple has officially announced that a March 7th event will be held in San Francisco to unveil the iPad 3.
So will we get that improved camera, A5X processor, newly-designed shell, and Retina Display? We still can’t say for sure, but at least now we know that Apple will make all known in just about one week. And judging from the image attached to the official invitation (see below), Retina Display certainly seems like a possibility, as do changes to the exterior of the device.
… But Apple wouldn’t likely make those changes and leave the guts of the iPad untouched. So maybe we can dream big and expect that A5X chip to come packaged in the iPad 3… But already we’re talking about some pretty big upgrades, so that rumored price increase (from about $579) also starts to become more and more of a likely possibility—one that’s decidedly less welcome than everything else.
It doesn’t look like Tim Cook and his team will leave the stage of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts after introducing the iPad 3; instead, they’re also expected to announce the first upgrade to Apple TV in a number of years. Better processing speed and a dual-core chip are some of the possible upgrades to the box, though just like the iPad, we’ll have to wait to find out for sure.
So is this sounding like the kind of event that will have you scouring the liveblogs? It’s all going down at 10 a.m. PST on Wednesday, March 7th—so plan accordingly!
