Cycloramic 2.0 Now Automatically Spinning Your iPhone 5 for Panoramic Photos, Not Just Video
About a month ago, we got wind of an impressive app called Cycloramic that can ***gasp*** make your iPhone turn 360-degrees and capture video at the same time… In the end, it wasn’t magic; rather, thanks to a very light device in the iPhone 5, the vibrator is capable of turning the trick. Pretty cool, and somewhat useful for video. But now that Cycloramic has been updated for use with panoramic photos, the app is seriously contending for a spot in your device’s “photography” folder.
As we said before, Cycloramic is great just to show off what your phone can do. Even though the mechanics behind the spinning don’t really speak to the smartness of your device, nobody has to know that… To accomplish 360-degree photos, the makers of the app tell the iPhone to take multiple pictures as it turns, and after the circle is completed, these shots are stitched into one 3D product (to be enjoyed along with a zoom-enabled viewer).
So, if you got a kick out of the videos but thought Cycloramic was a novelty not worth your money, it might be time to reconsider. Videos are neat, but 360-degree photos feel a lot more useful as keepsakes… Yeah, there are lots of apps for accomplishing this purpose, but as far as we know Cycloramic is the only one that makes your iPhone do ALL the work on its own.
Anyone tried this out yet?
