With iTunes Connect closed for the holidays, and very few quality apps gone free today, we thought you might want to know which of those must-have, AAA-quality apps are still free!

There were tons of great apps and games gone free this December. Although some have already reverted back to paid app status after temporarily dropping their prices to free, there are still lots of apps that are staying free for the holidays. Grab those apps you have missed earlier this month. Tell your friends, family members, and everyone you know about these crazy deals. They won’t last forever. So act now!

Please Note: All apps listed here are free in the U.S. App Store when this post was published. The price of the app should stay free until 12/29. But just to be sure, please make sure the price is free in the App Store before your download.

Editor’s Pick: Game Your Video

Game Your Video iPhone OS (4.5 stars with 1827 Ratings)

Now you can turn that boring video into an all star production with plenty of filters (you can even view the filters in live mode, or apply them later), motion effects, reverse features and effects, voice change input, split screen, and more. Change the speaker in your video to Chipmunk voice. Add haunted, retro, or movie themes to make those videos look and feel uniquely different. Share your masterpiece with the world with the built-in sharing features that link directly to YouTube and Facebook. It offers a lot to the user, and it’s all fairly simple to use and work with, making this a more than a worthwhile download.

Editor’s Pick: Photo Table

Photo Table is a great way to interact with your photos and turn them into interesting slideshows and collages. Simply choose individual photos from your photo library, and they will magically appear on the table.

You can move them, change their sizes, rotate them, place one photo on top of another one to create a beautiful collage. You can also run a slide show that runs the photos you have on the table. Of course, as with any well-connected photo app, you can easily download all of your Facebook albums with a few taps on the screen.

Editor’s Pick: Fatify

Fatify iPhone OS (4 stars with 9979 Ratings)
$0.99 →Free

Take a picture of someone’s face and see what the result would look like if they ate about fifteen cheeseburgers a day. It’s very simple and easy to do once you’ve taken the photo. After you’ve created your masterpiece (or monster, depending on your perspective and sense of self-deprecating humor), there are fun options such as animating your face to smile, blink, yawn and react when the photo is tapped or swiped. There’s even a fun ability to make the face jiggle when poked, which is something every large person I know loves to have happen to them.

Editor’s Pick: Snapseed

Snapseed iPhone OS (4 stars with 6757 Ratings)
$4.99 -> Free

Best described as an intuitively designed, touch based photo editing app with deep features, Snapseed packs lots of unique features not found in any other photo apps (Read our Review).

Snapseed can auto-adjust a bad image on your iPhone or iPad in just seconds. Color saturation, white balance, brightness, and a variety of other photo elements can be adjusted by swiping anywhere on the screen. You no longer have to look for that virtual scroll bar or buttons for adjustments.

There is even a selective adjustment feature that allows you to make photo adjustments only to a specific area of the photo. This feels like a feature found only on the desktop Photoshop. Other great photo editing features include intuitively cropping, straightening, and tuning image to create depth and vibrancy.

Best Free Games of the Month:

Editor’s Pick: Walking Dead: The Game

Walking Dead: The Game Universal (Optimized for both the iPad and iPhone) (3.5 stars with 22474 Ratings)
$4.99 → Free

Rated 5-stars in our review and possibly one of the top 10 iOS game of the year, Walking Dead: The Game brings cinematic zombie adventure to the iPhone and iPad. It is loosely based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book series, portraying the zombie apocalypse with its gritty, visceral details. You play Lee, a felon being transported to prison as the story begins. But an undead being caused the police car to roll over the hill, leaving you as the lone survivor. You’ll soon discover that the neighborhood near your crash area has become infested with zombies. You must survive!

Walking Dead is an adventure game with an excellent story and memorable moments. It is one of those rare games that makes you come back for more because you want to know what happens next. The characters are well portrayed while the action rarely stops. Since it is a zombie horror game, don’t be surprised at a sudden zombie scare or a few gruesome scenes. It is rated as 17 or older after all. The graphics are also some of the best the iPhone and iPad have ever seen.

All the bad guys locked up by the Avengers have escaped. You must take them down as Captain America or the Hulk as you battle with an assortment of enemies in this swipe-based fighting game akin to the Infinity Blade series. The graphics are quite nice, and gameplay is easy to pick up and grasp pretty quickly. One thing that’s really cool is that you can customize your character with special weaponry and costumes, giving you even more control over the game. Grab Avengers Initiative while the promotion is still on! Read our full review for more!

As suggested in our 4-star review, Chillingo has brought an excellent Diablo like experience to the iOS. You start out as an Orc trying to free your clan from the tyranny of the Dark One. In your quest to vanquish evil, you’ll fight the undead, spiders, goblins, demons, and more. You’ll explore dungeons, forests, and temples while learning new battle skills and acquiring better equipments. Similar to Diablo, you move and attack enemies by tapping on the screen. But you’ll be using gestures like swipes and circles to unleash devastating battle skills like berserk and dash attacks. Everything is packaged in superbly rendered 3D graphics. Check it out, it might be your favorite new game!

Editor’s Pick: Kingdom Rush

Kingdom Rush iPhone OS (5 stars with 9435 Ratings)

Among the numerous tower defense games in the App Store, Kingdom Rush is considered by many as one of the best. This legendary TD game earned a whopping 4.5-star rating in our review. For an old tried and tested genre like tower defense to score this high, Kingdom Rush must be doing something really great.

Kingdom Rush might seem to be your average tower defense game at a first glance, but it is the deep gameplay that stands out. You must strategically deploy your armies at certain points during an enemy assault to maximize your chances of winning. Tie up the enemies with your soldiers on the ground while the towers do their work to finish them off. As with other TD games, you get to build different towers and use new powers as you advance in the game. But each level is wonderfully designed to give you that feeling of glory after you’ve survived it. Just be warned that some levels can get pretty difficult.

Editor’s Pick: Super Monsters Ate My Condo!

Super Monsters Ate My Condo! Universal (Optimized for both the iPad and iPhone) (4.5 stars with 10537 Ratings)
$0.99 → Free

In this Super-sized second coming of Monsters Ate My Condo, things are weirder and crazier than ever, and that’s a good thing. Do your best to match the condos that drop down to stack on top of one another by color, and then feed them to the monster on either side of the stack that is of the same color as well. Try to keep the monsters happy, grab yourself some power ups, and keep the tower standing. With over 90 goals to complete, plenty of frenetic action, new crazy condos, and just all around fun, you should grab Adult Swim’s Super Monsters Ate My Condo today.

Editor’s Pick: Snowboard Hero

This snowboard simulation game is an action-packed snowboarding experience right on your iOS device, full of custom character capabilities and amazing snowboard trickery. It’s equipped with rather intuitive controls, so you’ll be throwing trick after trick in no time while boarding down some of the best mountains and traversing some of the craziest terrain parks your mind can handle. We did a full review on this game a while ago, and gave it a high rating, so you know Snowboard Hero is worth checking out.

We gave Tilt to Live a 4.5 star out of 5 back in 2010 in our review. Its addicting gameplay and flawless controls earned lots of love from us as well as iPhone gamers everywhere. You play as an accelerometer controlled cursor that must dodge and use various on-screen power-ups against a bombardment of enemy red dots. These red dots appear constantly and you must use every available means to survive as long as possible. The near misses and the reach for high scores will have you come back for more. Tilt to Live is one of the must have games for the iPhone. Don’t miss it.

Fantasy Conflict is a real time strategy game in which you must strategically capture towers and castles in the land with the goal of ultimately eliminating all enemy presence. Deploy your troops to capture more castles. Use a variety of magic against the enemy. Unlike other games of its type, the gameplay in this game is deep. You can upgrade each castle or tower to boost its defensive and offensive capabilities. Choose to expand your troop capacity or beef up its defenses with a bigger wall. Attach missile projectiles to defend against incoming enemy troops. This is an epic tower defense game you should not miss!
