[ Gone Free ] Burner: Got secret business? This app gives your iPhone a disposable number
Burner – Disposable Phone Numbers
An app from a company called Ad Hoc is ready to assist you the next time you find yourself in need of a phone number to handout, but feel hesitant about providing your REAL number. For example, you want to keep the phone number you’ve used for years, but unsure to give out that number to a guy who could turn out to be some kind of a freak.
It’s called Burner, and Ad Hoc’s app will provide you with the disposable phone number. This certainly sounds like an app you’d expect to be jailbreak-only, but it’s not, and Ad Hoc has offered no explanation for how it works… So, if you’re the type who regularly needs a disposable phone number, I’d act fast lest Burner disappears from the App Store.
So what exactly do you get with this app? Well, a phone number—one that can be used for one week, 60 texts, or 20 minutes. It’s a credit-based system, too, so I’m sure you can load up more credits and get more disposable numbers as they become necessary (what kind of life are you living, anyway?). For what it’s worth, Ad Hoc appears to be targeting the app to those using Craigslist or an online dating service—you know, anytime you’re just not quite sure about giving away the real thing.
The app sports a pretty slick icon and a flashy design. The video above shows just how easy it is to come up with a new number and then “burn” it when you’re done. It’s kind of a fun idea, even if its real-life applications might be few and far between.
