Hashtags, OpenTable come to Facebook iOS app in Latest Update
Once in awhile, Facebook rolls out an update to its iOS app that contains features worth mentioning. If you’re a fan of Twitter’s signature hashtags and OpenTables restaurant booking services, then this is one of the updates you’ll appreciate. It’s version 6.4–with all of the above and more packed inside.
Before we look further at the marquee features of the update, here’s the full change log:
- Search for hashtags or tap them in posts to see what other people are saying about a topic
- Make restaurant reservations directly on participating Pages in the US
- Faster loading and a cleaner design for timelines on iPad
- Fixed a bug that was causing some people to see red notification badges when there weren’t any new notifications
… So, besides some under-the-hood improvements, the features you’ll notice are hashtags and OpenTable. By implementing hashtags throughout the app, Facebook makes it possible for users to keep track of hot topics and relevant posts. From what we can tell, the implementation is similar to what we’re used to in Twitter, and it should be a welcome addition to the Facebook experience.
As for OpenTable, it’s been baked into iOS and Siri for quite awhile, so most of us are familiar with the service it affords. As part of Facebook, OpenTable will allow for reservations to be made through restaurant fan Pages or ‘Nearby Places.’
