iOS 3rd-person Shooter Set in the world of DuckTales? Now Available in Canadian App Store

ducktales2Sometimes, even heavy-hitting developers like Disney can catch us off guard with what they sneak into the App Store. This week, Canadian gamers who take an interest in the late 80s animated TV show called DuckTales have a pleasant surprise awaiting them in the App Store… For those of us spread across the rest of the world, chances seem good that DuckTales: Scrooge’s Loot is seeing a soft launch before becoming more widely-available soon.

Here’s the premise:

“The infamous Beagle Boys have swindled Scrooge’s fortune! It’s up to you to join the citizens of Duckburg to recover his stolen loot! Team up with your friends, and haul back the most riches to beat the competition in this grandiose, mad gold rush. Get ready for a ton of action-packed fun and appearances from classic Ducktales characters like Scrooge and his quirky pilot, Launchpad!”

… From what we can tell in the screenshots, it all unfolds as a 3rd-person shooter with a heavy emphasis on coin collection. You’ll be trying to get said coins back to your team’s helicopter, but being defeated means dropping your loot and it becoming available to opponents.

As a free-to-play release in the Canadian App Store, everything about DuckTales: Scrooge’s Loot (App Store Link) points to Disney opening this up to the rest of the world as soon as its ready. The concept is quite simple–let’s hope the soft launch means it’ll be great when the rest of us get our hands on it!
