iPad Mini all but confirmed in Apple’s press invitation for Oct. 23rd event
Well, now we’ve really got something to go on… Up until now, the “iPad Mini” was just an idea, albeit one that had gained a lot of momentum due to part leaks and supplier chatter… But now we’ve got an official press release, and while it doesn’t say anything that’s explicitly related to a smaller iPad, the tagline is definitely pointing in that direction.
So what “little” thing might Apple have to show us exactly one week from today? Well, we just got a new iPhone and a couple of new iPods, so that leaves the iPad and Mac lineup… It could be that we’re finally about to meet that 7.85-inch tablet that Steve Jobs reportedly never wanted to happen—the one that will compete directly with devices like Google’s Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire. Once that happens it likely won’t matter how optimal that 7-inch display is, because given the right price, everything we know about the tablet industry says consumers will choose Apple.
… And if recent reports prove accurate, they’ll have quite a few different models to choose from. If Apple offers smaller iPads that range from Wi-Fi only to 4G LTE enabled, they could feasibly please people who are on a tight budget as well as those who can pay top dollar but prefer the smaller form factor to the usual iPad size.
Along with the smaller iPad, some expect Apple to update the Mac Mini, and who knows, maybe the iMac and MacBook, too… It’s all going down next Tuesday, October 23rd!
