Universal (Optimized for Both the iPad and iPhone)
( stars with Ratings)
Everyone is thrilled to see Men in Black represented in the App Store, but at the same time it’s a little disappointing to see that Gameloft is offering a freemium game that’s nothing like the first- or third-person shooter we might have expected for the franchise. But oh well, maybe they’ve come up with a really fun way to be in charge of the MIB agency on a higher level. At no cost to get started, it’s worth finding out.
Defender Chronicles II
Defender Chronicles II: Heroes of Athelia Universal (Optimized for Both the iPad and iPhone)
(4.5 stars with 3545 Ratings)
This RPG tower defense sequel spins off the original by bringing a new vertical view to the table. Set in the land of Athelia, Defense Chronicles debuted in 2009, and now the second in the series is here for $2.99. It looks like this one is game of the week if strategy is what you crave.
Air Mail™ Universal (Optimized for Both the iPad and iPhone)
(4 stars with 435 Ratings)
Chillingo is exploring new horizons by entering the fascinating world of professional letter-carrying… Actually, you might be surprised at how entertaining it looks. The game costs $4.99, and it’ll have you flying through some visually impressive landscapes as you, well, deliver that air mail.
Virtua Tennis Challenge Universal (Optimized for Both the iPad and iPhone)
(4 stars with 1257 Ratings)
It looks like Sega has gone all-out in trying to bring us a full-featured tennis experience for the iOS platform. Given the great history of the Virtua Tennis franchise, there’s reason to hope that they’ll be successful. Gesture-controlled swings and multiplayer are just a few of the reasons we can’t wait to spend $4.99 on this one.
Slingshot Racing Universal (Optimized for Both the iPad and iPhone)
(4.5 stars with 3167 Ratings)
Here’s a take on racing I don’t remember seeing in the App Store before now—slingshot-controlled vehicles. It’s a bit hard to tell how it will all work just from the trailer, but for 99 cents, it’s looking like the visuals alone make it worth taking the chance. This is the first racing game from Crescent Moon Games, so we’re about to find out if they’re on to something with this slingshot thing.
Extreme Skater iPhone OS
(4.5 stars with 5190 Ratings)
You’ve played skateboarding games on your iPhone, but how EXTREME has it been? Extreme Skater introduces super thick wheels capable of off-road riding, as well as treacherous terrains, zip lines, and all kinds of other contraptions that would mean certain death if tried in real life… But that’s why you can just pay 99 cents and keep the EXTREME on your iPhone.
