Mysterious Chip in iPhone 5 is Just an Earpiece Speaker
When we got a look at what is believed to be the latest leaked parts of the coming iPhone, everyone was quick to believe in the idea that the mysterious little chip in the corner might have something to do with Near Field Communication, a technology that lets your phone pay for things at a store. It was an exciting thought, especially after months of dwelling on bigger screens and smaller dock connectors… But alas, the latest rumors are dashing our hopes of NFC, and instead stating that the chip amounts to nothing more than an earpiece speaker.
Leave it to those who actually know stuff about iPhone parts to ruin the fun. MacRumors and RepairLabs both seem to be on the same page in saying that new photos reveal the “chip” to be a part of the ordinary process of amplifying what comes out of our earpieces… But maybe, at least, the fact that we didn’t recognize this speaker in the first place means that Apple has revamped the unit for clarity, higher volume, or some other sort of improvement?
At this point, each developing rumor ends with the same thought, and that is this—wait just a few days and we’ll all find out at the official event! Apple’s next keynote is “almost here” itself, and NFC or not, you can bet they’ll change the conversation to what really matters about the iPhone 5.
