Rovio Announces “Something Even Bigger” as Angry Birds Space Surpasses 50 Million Downloads
If you thought the Angry Birds phenomenon couldn’t get any bigger, you thought wrong.
Rovio, the game’s developer, has just announced that in the 35 days that Angry Birds Space has been available, it has broken all previous records by surpassing 50 million downloads. Again, that’s 50 million downloads…in 35 days. Think about that for a second and then meet me in the next paragraph.
With numbers like this, Angry Birds space has become one of the fastest growing mobile game apps of all time. The developers have taken to their website to express their “deepest of gratitudes” to fans the world over, and even hinted at something bigger to come in the near future:
There’s only one conclusion to draw: something even bigger is on its way! Stay tuned and keep flinging those Birds!
One has to wonder what it could be, considering how big their latest endeavor turned out to be. Could it be another Angry Birds game, or something altogether different? While your guess is as good as mine, I’d have to put my bets on Rovio bringing out something entirely different from Angry Birds, and that possibility honestly excites me. The company has proven time and again that it can ship wonderful apps that resonate on a large scale with users, and if they’re willing to place such high expectations on an upcoming secret project, then that has to mean something, right?
We’ll have to wait and see, though, as they gave no other indication as to what it could be. Regardless, congrats to Rovio on their immense success!
