Seriously, who buys this stuff? Gold-plated iPhone 5 for Protection against Scratches
In case you felt like you weren’t spending enough money on Apple products as it is, London-based GOLD & Co. is the latest company making it possible for you to drop even more dough on an iOS device. Their latest creation? A gold-plated iPhone 5.
While you might say GOLD & Co. is being needlessly extravagant here, you can’t accuse them of working slowly… The iPhone 5 has been available for less than a week and the company’s website is already decorated with a big image of the bedazzled iPhone. We wish we knew how much this thing was selling for, but absent that figure, here’s Gold & Co.’s description of what you can expect to get with their gold-plated devices (this description for the iPhone 4S, which may differ from the yet-to-be published description of the iPhone 5):
“All buttons and bezels are hand-polished to a mirror finish then plated in a Multi layer process topped off with 24KT gold to ensure end-to-end coverage and worry-free durability. Each limited-edition item is individually numbered to ensure exclusivity. There are no factory locks on our devices, which means they can be used anywhere in the world.”
That “worry-free durability” is a nice feature given the iPhone 5’s scratching issue, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say that there are a few cheaper methods than this to protect your new device.
