Want to watch Every Olympic Event Possible? NBC has an App for that

With the Olympics on their way, everyone is gearing up for the festivities. Whether you’re a fan of swimming, track and field, or even rhythmic gymnastics (that’s still a thing?), there’s plenty on your plate in terms of viewing options.

Unfortunately, there’s almost too much for NBC to air, so if you want to catch your favorite niche sport, you’re sore out of luck, right? Wrong.

NBC has released it’s pair of Olympics apps, called NBC Olympics NBC Olympics - NBC Universal, Inc. and NBC Olympics Live Extra NBC Olympics Live Extra - NBC Universal, Inc., the latter of which is currently sitting atop the #1 Free App position.

NBC Olympics Live Extra allows for the live viewing of every Olympic event right on your iOS device. Well, every event other than the opening ceremonies, curiously. With over 3,500 hours of Olympic action streaming, you’ll have more than your share of viewing possibilities.  However only cable, telco, or satellite TV subscribers in the US are eligible for the complete live experience.  Those without a paid TV package that includes CNBC and MSNBC can only get limited live NBC network content and replays on the London Olympics.

NBC Olympics meanwhile, is a companion app that will give you detailed updates and standings on every event. Get results and schedules. View photos and select videos within this app.

While the live streaming app is quite popular, there are a number of negative reviews,  mostly stating how buggy the app has been.

While these reviews do seem a bit disappointing, my guess is that NBC will be releasing an update to fix these bug issues sometime soon, hopefully. This is too big and too popular for NBC to allow the possibilities slip through its fingers due to poor software development. Regardless, if you’re like me, you’ll be downloading both apps and enjoying yourself some once-every-4-years athletic competition.
